Saturday, February 28, 2026, will be etched in memory as a landmark day for Aiyede Kingdom and neighboring communities in Ondo and Ekiti States. On that day, business leader and political figure, Engr. Michael Abayomi Adeyanju, was formally installed as the Otunba Mulero of the kingdom, in a ceremony marked by tradition, grandeur, and communal pride.
The installation, presided over by the Attah of Aiyede Kingdom, Oba AbdulMumini Adebayo Orishagbemi, drew dignitaries, political leaders, business associates, and community elders from across the region.
The event was described by attendees as one of the most spectacular in the kingdom’s 145-community history, featuring rhythmic drumming, vibrant dances, and traditional chants that underscored the day’s cultural and social significance.
Ceremony of Honour and Heritage
Central to the ceremony was the symbolic mounting of Ewe Akoko—sacred leaves representing authority and honour—by the Attah on Adeyanju.
The ritual formally inducted him into the circle of Otunbas, a rank associated with leadership, wisdom, and service to the community.
Clad in regal attire and accompanied by his wife, Adeyanju received the honour with humility, reflecting the personal traits that have earned him admiration in both business and politics.
The day also marked the commissioning of the newly completed Attah’s Palace, a project completed under the administration of Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji with support from national figures including Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar.
The palace stands as a symbol of unity, progress, and the enduring relevance of traditional institutions.
Rising Political and Public Profile
Beyond cultural recognition, the conferment of the Otunba Mulero title has amplified political conversations in Ondo North Senatorial District. Adeyanju, Director General of the Imole Progressive Network (IPN) and a prominent businessman with interests spanning Abuja and Port Harcourt, is widely regarded as a strong contender for the 2027 senatorial elections.
It was a celebration of Yoruba heritage, communal solidarity, and the continuity of traditional institutions. In conferring the Otunba Mulero title on Engr. Michael Adeyanju, the kingdom reaffirmed the timeless relevance of its customs while recognising modern achievement.
February 28, 2026, will remain a defining chapter in Aiyede’s history—a day where tradition and modern accomplishment converged beneath the crown of an Otunba.
