The National President of the Afenifere Youth Council (AYC), Eniola Ojajuni, has regained his freedom after spending 12 days in captivity.

Ojajuni, who was abducted by gunmen in Abuja on February 18, was released on Saturday, March 1, 2025, after a ransom was reportedly paid to secure his freedom.

Confirming the development, AYC National Secretary, Abiodun Aderohunmu, expressed relief over his release, stating that Ojajuni was undergoing medical treatment due to injuries sustained during the ordeal.

“We are delighted to announce that our president, Prince Eniola Joseph Ojajuni, has been released from captivity. He was freed today, March 1, 2025, at approximately 6:00 pm,” Aderohunmu said in a statement.

“The Afenifere National Youth Council expresses its profound gratitude to all individuals, organizations, and well-wishers who stood by us during this challenging period. Your support, prayers, and solidarity were invaluable to us.

Prince is currently receiving medical care. We also want to emphasize that security is key, and the government must take responsibility for the safety of its people.”

Ojajuni’s abduction had sparked widespread concerns after it was revealed that his kidnappers demanded a N100 million ransom.

The youth leader had also suffered a bullet wound on his buttock during the attack, heightening fears about his safety.

On February 24, a distressing video surfaced online, showing Ojajuni seated on the ground with an AK-47-wielding gunman standing over him. In the footage, he pleaded for financial assistance to meet the kidnappers’ ransom demand.

Amid mounting pressure, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, ordered the deployment of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) on February 26 to secure his rescue.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, had cautioned against the spread of unverified information on social media, warning that it could endanger rescue efforts.
