AFTER PLATFORM TIMES REPORT, Ogun Police Arrest Officers Over Alleged Extortion In Missing Girl Case

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested several officers accused of extorting money from the family of a missing girl before initiating an investigation into her disappearance.

This development came hours after PLATFORM TIMES published a report alleging that the officers demanded N40,000 from the distraught mother to take her statement and track the kidnapper’s phone.

While the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, initially denied the claim, describing it as false, the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the arrest of the implicated officers on Saturday via a post on his X (formerly Twitter) handle.

“Otta missing girl: The policemen who demanded money before they could attend to the case have been arrested and are now in detention for disciplinary action,” Adejobi wrote.

He assured the public that the police remain committed to locating the missing girl, adding that efforts were ongoing to reunite her with her family.

“The Ogun State Police Command has been on the case. The girl will be found as soon as possible. We also urge the family of the victim to cooperate with the police,” Adejobi stated.

In a separate advisory, the Force spokesman reiterated the Inspector General of Police’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption, warning officers against using the IGP’s name to exploit members of the public.

He urged citizens to report such misconduct promptly.

The incident has sparked widespread condemnation, with many calling for stricter disciplinary measures to deter similar occurrences in the future.
