For years, students and lecturers at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, have struggled with erratic electricity that crippled learning, research, and campus life. That struggle may now be easing, as the Ogun State Government has delivered two new transformers to the institution.
PLATFORM TIMES reports that a statement by Head, Public Relations & Protocol, ‘yemi Ajibola disclosed that the transformers — a 500KVA/.415KV and a 300KVA/.415KV capacity — are part of the state’s intervention to end the institution’s chronic power challenges and restore it as a hub of technology and innovation.
According to the statement,for students, the development is more than infrastructure; it is relief. Many say power outages have disrupted digital learning, forced them to rely on expensive generators, and slowed down research in laboratories and workshops.
Ajibola in the statement said, rector of the institution, Arc. Dr. ’Koye Jolaoso, described the project as a turning point in MAPOLY’s revival.
“This is more than just electricity; it is about giving our students the tools to compete globally in technology and innovation. Governor Abiodun has given us hope by keeping his promise,” Jolaoso said.
The management noted that the development followed a recent stakeholders’ engagement with the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), which had pledged to recommend lasting solutions to MAPOLY’s power crisis.
Governor Dapo Abiodun, in his earlier commitment, had assured that MAPOLY would not be left behind in his administration’s plan to reposition Ogun State’s tertiary institutions.
Staff and students say they are now looking forward to uninterrupted power supply, which they believe will enhance academic activities and improve the polytechnic’s competitiveness.
PLATFORM TIMES further reports that MAPOLY, once regarded as one of the country’s leading polytechnics, has over the years battled infrastructural decline, with electricity topping the list of its challenges.
