In a heartwarming demonstration of the Christmas spirit, over 200 widows, children, and underprivileged individuals were treated to a day of joy and generosity at the third edition of the annual Christmas party hosted by the TemmyMo Welfare Initiative in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The initiative, led by Mrs. Modupe Idowu, a retired journalist and businesswoman, was created in memory of her late husband, Mr. Temitope Idowu, whose name is represented in the initiative’s title—”Temmy” for Temitope and “Mo.” for Modupe, reflecting their enduring legacy of compassion.
The event, held on Wednesday, embodied the true essence of the season, with Mrs. Idowu expressing her commitment to giving back to the community.
“In the spirit of Christmas, I’m honored to give back to society,” she said. “This is my third edition, and I’m committed to continuing this tradition.”
She emphasized the need to extend love and care to the less privileged during the festive season, adding that the initiative serves as a platform to spread God’s blessings and bring a sense of belonging to those in need.
The event attracted commendation from dignitaries, including Mrs. Yetunde Kujore, a retired Permanent Secretary of the Ogun State Civil Service, Bureau of Establishment and Training.
In her remarks, Mrs. Kujore lauded Mrs. Idowu’s commitment to uplifting the underprivileged, describing her as a beacon of hope.
“Your kindness inspires hope,” she said. “Her selfless efforts demonstrate the power of giving, bringing joy to those who need it most.”
Addressing the children, Mrs. Kujore offered words of encouragement, urging them to aspire to greatness. “The sky is your limit; continue to strive for excellence,” she said.
The celebration featured a lively atmosphere with music from a live DJ and dancing competitions where children showcased their talents, with winners receiving special prizes.
The event fostered unity as attendees of all ages joined in dancing and merrymaking.
Guests were treated to a lavish meal and given various gifts, including food items and raw foodstuff, provided by Mrs. Idowu and the TemmyMo Welfare Initiative.
Beneficiaries expressed profound gratitude, describing the event as a lifeline during challenging times.
“This gathering has brought hope and joy to our hearts,” one widow remarked.
