Troops of 233 Battalion, Damaturu, Yobe State have arrested a suspect conveying agricultural empowerment equipment distributed to farmers across the state for food security.

Special Adviser on Security Matters to the Yobe State Governor, Dahiru Abdulsalam disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday.

According to him, the suspect identified as Abdulmumini Lawan, aged 39, who is a Golf 3 Wagon driver with vehicle plate No: NFD 258 XA was conveying the agricultural empowerment tools when he was arrested by the troops.

He said the suspect was conveying 4 thrashers suspected to be items given to beneficiaries as empowerment tools by the Yobe State Government.

Abdulsalam added that the suspect and the items have been handed over to the Yobe State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corp NSCDC for further action.

Recall that, the Yobe State government had banned the sale or purchase of the recently distributed farm machinery and inputs as they were giving to local farmers to boost food production in the state.

This is the second suspect being arrested with the empowerment materials by the troops in the state.

Governor Buni had tasked security agencies to arrest anybody found diverting the agricultural empowerment equipment, warning that such saboteurs should be made to face the full wrath of the law.
