Renowned global ambassador and Artificial Intelligence expert, Nnenna Nwankama, has urged Nigerians, especially the younger generation, to place values and integrity above profit and power in building enduring institutions.
Nwankama, a Babcock University alumna and former student of the Adventist Seminary of West Africa (ASWA), delivered this charge on Thursday while speaking at the university’s Founder’s Day lecture themed “Legacy and Leadership Excellence: Building Enduring Institutions in Times of Change.”
Addressing a full house at the university’s 2,500-capacity Amphitheatre, the tech leader decried what she described as a “crisis of values” confronting global institutions.
“Brilliance without character is celebrated, intelligence without compassion is tolerated, and knowledge is pursued, but wisdom is neglected,” she lamented.
According to her, while education, expertise, and technology are important, they are insufficient without integrity and character. She stressed that true success is not guaranteed by degrees or titles but by the values that guide an individual’s life.
Drawing from her personal journey, Nwankama attributed her achievements to the values instilled during her formative years at ASWA, noting that her greatest identity is being “loved by God.”
She urged students to cultivate kindness, embrace integrity, and constantly sharpen their skills.
In his remarks, the President and Vice-Chancellor of Babcock University, Prof. Ademola Tayo, reinforced her message, cautioning against the dangers of allowing technology, convenience, and efficiency to overshadow faith and conviction.
He said: “these shifts, while opening opportunities, also pose risks if technology replaces relationship, if efficiency overshadows integrity, if convenience weakens conviction, and if popular culture redefines our understanding of God and His holy Word.”
Prof. Tayo further charged students and leaders to expand the university’s vision with courage and relevance in a rapidly changing world.
Both speakers emphasized that the integration of values, character, and faith into education remains the cornerstone for raising leaders who will uphold purpose and principle in a profit-driven society.
