The Head of Service of Ondo State, Bayo Phillip, has assured civil servants in the state that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa is determined to pay the proposed N73,000 minimum wage.
According to the Head of Service, the recent approval of the N73,000 minimum wage for civil servants in the state by Aiyedatiwa was not done for the purpose of political patronage.
Philip, who maintained that the wage would be paid immediately after the necessary adjustments had been concluded.
The Head of Service, while disclosing this while briefing newsmen on this year’s commemoration of the public service week, revealed that the recruitment of teachers had been finalised.
While revealing that the salary wage bill of the state is N4.8 billion, Philip said, “Recently, Mr. Governor has approved a minimum wage of seventy-three thousand naira for workers in the state.
“At the moment, the consequential adjustment table is being worked out. There is no politics about it at all, and that is the character of the Aiyedatiwa Administration. Minimum wage is not a political thing. Politics will come and go, and it will outlive elections. Our governor has given his commitment; no going back.
“At the moment, Mr. Governor is putting finishing touches not to the issue of minimum wage but to a realistic and sustainable table.
“Also, recruitment is beyond politics. The process has been concluded. As at the time the recruitment was approved.”
