Ake Pavilion Scandal: PDP Youth Leader Mocks APC Over Projects Controversies

The Youth Leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Oyejide Sunkanmi, has ridiculed the Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress over its internal strife, particularly the ongoing rift between Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, and former Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun.

Oyejide, in a statement made available on Tuesday, lambasted the APC for what he described as a party entangled in controversy, specifically over the Ake Pavilion project.

He pointed out that the recent war of words between the camps of Yayi and Amosun has further exposed deep-seated divisions within the party, just as preparations for the 2027 general election begin to gather momentum.

According to opinion leaders referenced by Oyejide, Senator Adeola is allegedly attempting to appropriate credit for the Ake Pavilion project, which was originally initiated by Amosun, a prominent political figure from Egbaland.

The clash between their camps has escalated in the past 24 hours, fueling concerns over the stability of the ruling party in the state.

The controversy took another dimension when a former Chairman of Ijebu East Local Government, Hon. Wale Adedayo, took to his Facebook page to criticize Yayi’s approach.

Adedayo argued that as Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Yayi should focus on facilitating developmental projects for his colleagues, Senator Gbenga Daniel (Ogun East) and Senator Shuaib Afolabi (Ogun Central), rather than allegedly seeking to overshadow them.

The infighting within Ogun APC could significantly affect its electoral prospects, particularly as Yayi’s expansion of projects beyond Ogun West is widely perceived as a strategic move to boost his governorship ambition.

Oyejide said  critics believe this approach has backfired, painting Daniel and Shuaib as ineffective representatives and potentially alienating their supporters.

Senator Adeola, a seasoned politician who previously represented Lagos West in the Senate from 2015 to 2023 before securing his current seat for Ogun West, has found himself in the eye of the storm.

He added that Senator  Adeola’s  latest actions appear to have generated more controversy than support, providing opposition parties an opportunity to capitalize on the internal divisions within the ruling party.
