Governor  of Ondo State,Rotimi Akeredolu has made a triumphant return to Nigeria after a three-month medical sojourn in Germany.

The joyful homecoming was confirmed through a picture shared by the governor’s wife, Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, on her social media account on Thursday, September 7, 2023.

Captioning the picture, the Ondo First Lady wrote, “Homebound,” signifying the end of the governor’s extended medical leave abroad.

Governor Akeredolu had initially written to the Ondo State Assembly on June 5, 2023, informing them of his intention to embark on a medical leave abroad.

Subsequently, he sought an extension of his medical leave, as per Section 190 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

In a statement released on Monday, July 10, 2023, Assembly Speaker Olamide Oladiji revealed the governor’s request for an extension was based on his doctor’s advice to ensure proper recuperation.

The statement further indicated that during Governor Akeredolu’s absence, Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa would continue to serve as the acting governor.

Throughout his medical leave, Governor Akeredolu maintained contact with the people of Ondo State, assuring them of his ongoing recovery and his intent to return to office once his medical team deemed it suitable.

The governor’s return marks the end of a challenging period of medical treatment and a hopeful new chapter for Ondo State’s leadership.
