In a surprising turn of events in Ondo state, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has taken a decisive step by dismissing the media aides associated with his deputy, Hon Lucky Ayedatiwa.
This move comes amidst growing concerns of a potential shakeup within the State Executive Council.
During Governor Akeredolu’s medical vacation in Germany, the State Executive Council became divided, leading to apprehension among its members regarding their future under the governor’s administration.
Since the governor’s return last week, a sense of insecurity has prevailed among some council members, fueled by the governor’s actions and demeanor.
The removal of the deputy governor’s aides was announced through a statement from the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Richard Olatunde, in Akure. Governor Akeredolu mandated that the dismissed media aides surrender all government assets in their possession to the acting Permanent Secretary at the Office of the Deputy Governor.
The affected individuals include Kenneth Odusola, Press Secretary to the Governor; Okunniga Oladipupo, Special Assistant to the Governor (New Media); and Abayomi Samson Adefolalu, Special Assistant to the Governor (Photography).
In the official statement, it was stated: “All media aides appointed by the Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, CON, and seconded to the office of the deputy Governor, have been relieved of their appointments.”
The statement also confirmed the disbandment of the Press Crew attached to the deputy governor’s office, with a directive for its members to return to their respective ministries and stations.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Information and Orientation was tasked with ensuring comprehensive coverage of the deputy governor’s activities moving forward.
Sources within the government revealed that the dismissals were a consequence of alleged insubordination and blatant disregard for authority.
One of the deputy governor’s aides purportedly made derogatory comments about the governor on their WhatsApp status, which was shared with the governor’s associates during his absence in Germany. Another aide was implicated in disseminating negative stories about the governor.
Despite efforts to seek the deputy governor’s response to Governor Akeredolu’s decision, he was reportedly out of the state capital on official duties, making communication impossible.
