Following the demise of the Akwa Ibom State First Lady, Patience Umo Eno, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has suspended its campaign for the forthcoming Local Government election in the state.

DAILY POST had reported that the First Lady died on Thursday in an undisclosed hospital after a brief illness.

Her death was announced in a statement issued Friday morning by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy in the state, Ini Emembong.

Reacting to the unfortunate development, the PDP spokesperson in Akwa Ibom, Edwin Ebiese said in a statement that campaign activities have been suspended.

He said, “This devastating news has left our party, and indeed the entire state, in mourning.

“As we struggle to come to terms with this immense loss, we are compelled to pause our campaign activities as a mark of respect for the departed First Lady.”

DAILY POST reports that the Local Government election is expected to be held in the 31 LGAs of the state on October 5, 2024.
