Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has launched a blistering attack on President Bola Tinubu, warning Nigerians against re-electing him in the 2027 general elections, and declaring that the country risks “total collapse” if Tinubu secures a second term.
Amaechi, who recently defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), made the statement while addressing members of a coalition under the ADC in Rivers State on Tuesday.
The former Rivers governor accused the Tinubu administration of deepening hardship across the country and predicted dire consequences if the current leadership continues beyond 2027.
“Currently, Nigerians are complaining in President Tinubu’s first tenure; imagine what the second tenure will be like. Then, you’ll be dead and buried,” Amaechi told a crowd of supporters.
In a scathing criticism of the ruling party, Amaechi urged his audience to return to their communities and begin voter mobilisation ahead of the 2027 polls.
“We are new members of the ADC, it’s the adopted party of the coalition. Most importantly, have your eyes on 2027, and to do that, go home and start registration,” he said.
He revealed that a committee would be set up to assess party strength at the grassroots level, moving from “local government to local government, ward to ward” to ensure strategic readiness.
Amaechi also called out the Rivers State political system, alleging that it has become synonymous with election result manipulation.
“Our state is notorious for writing results, and we must stop them. When they say they’ve already written results, it discourages voters from coming out,” he said, calling on supporters to resist electoral fraud and actively participate in the democratic process.
The former minister warned that unless a change is made, the nation may “die of hunger,” suggesting that Nigeria is already on the brink due to poor governance under Tinubu’s watch.
Amaechi, once a key figure in the APC and a presidential aspirant in the 2023 elections, recently announced his resignation from the party, saying he “never believed in Tinubu’s capacity to lead Nigeria.”
