Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom (2021-2023), Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Isola, has lauded Kemi Badenoch for her groundbreaking ascent as the new leader of the Conservative Party.

In a congratulatory message, Ambassador Isola described Badenoch’s victory as a monumental achievement that speaks to her courage, determination, and resolute commitment to positive change.

Ambassador Isola, in his heartfelt message, remarked that Badenoch’s rise symbolizes much more than a change in leadership; it represents hope and the possibility of transformative change.

“As the first black woman to lead a major British political party, you’ve shattered glass ceilings and inspired countless individuals worldwide,” Isola expressed.

He further emphasized that her triumph reinforces the Conservative Party’s commitment to diversity, inclusion, and a forward-looking approach.

Born to Nigerian parents, Badenoch moved to the UK at age 16 and steadily carved out her path in British politics.

Her victory comes on the heels of her successful retention of the Saffron Walden constituency seat amid the Conservative Party’s notable defeat in the 2023 general elections.

Ambassador Isola noted this achievement as a testament to her resilience, leadership, and dedication to public service.

The ambassador also commended Badenoch for her boldness in tackling contentious issues and for her transparent, accountable approach, which he believes resonates with the British people.

“Your commitment to honesty, transparency, and accountability resonates deeply with the public,” he stated, pointing out her willingness to acknowledge past mistakes while striving for a renewed party direction.

With Badenoch now at the helm, the Conservative Party’s path under her leadership is set to emphasise accountability and rejuvenation.

Ambassador Isola highlighted the significance of her position, as she will represent the Conservative Party against Labour’s Keir Starmer in the House of Commons, taking on the critical role of holding the government accountable.

In closing, Ambassador Isola praised Badenoch’s trailblazing spirit, noting that her journey inspires not only the British public but countless others worldwide.

“Kemi Badenoch, your leadership victory is a remarkable achievement,” he said, affirming that her leadership would undoubtedly leave a legacy for generations of aspiring politicians.
