Former Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has  emphasized the importance of patriotism and unity among Nigerians, particularly within the All Progressives Congress (APC), during a New Year celebration held in Abeokuta on Wednesday.

Amosun, addressing party faithful, urged citizens to remain steadfast and hopeful, emphasizing the need for prayers for the well-being of Nigeria, Ogun State, and individual homes.

Amosun said “ I feel happy. First, we have to thank the Almighty God because not everybody that witnessed 2023 was   opportune  to be here today. In fact, some of our people here, you know we have to even pray for them.

“That alone is grace from the almighty God, So, I am elated and happy as always. And I pray that this will not be the last one. Next year, we’ll do something like this. It is just a way of appreciating God and appreciating my people.

“My message to Nigerians is to be steadfast, to keep the hope alive and to continue to pray that all will be well in Nigeria, in Ogun State and in our various homes. And this new year will be very prosperous and fulfilling to us.”

The event brought together political leaders, including former Senator Tolu Odebiyi, Senator Iyabo Anisulowo, former ADC Governorship candidate Biyi Otegbeye, former PDP governorship aspirant, Segun Sowunmi, and others from the 20 local government areas of the state.

Reflecting on the challenges faced in the previous year, Amosun expressed gratitude for the opportunity to witness 2024 and encouraged attendees to appreciate life’s blessings. He conveyed a message of optimism, expressing hope for a prosperous and fulfilling new year.

Senator Tolu Odebiyi, a former Chief of Staff during Amosun’s governorship, highlighted the deep personal relationship he shares with Amosun, transcending political differences.

Similarly, Rotimi Paseda, an APC member, described Amosun as a worthy leader, stating his commitment to celebrating with the former governor.

Despite political affiliations, Alhaji Olatunde Awonuga stressed Amosun’s foundational role in the APC, emphasizing the collective contribution made for the emergence of the president.

Awonuga asserted that their presence at the celebration showcased the unity within the political landscape.

The former People’s Democratic Party governorship aspirant, Segun Sowunmi, acknowledged Amosun’s leadership in the Ogun Central Senatorial District, expressing respect and gratitude as he aspires to govern in the future.

The gathering not only celebrated the transition to a new year but also underscored the significance of unity and cooperation among political leaders for the progress and development of Ogun State.

The event served as a platform for individuals with diverse political backgrounds to come together, reinforcing the call for peace and unity in the political sphere.
