Former Governor of Ogun State and prominent political figure, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Chief Mrs. Adenike Ebun Oyagbola, Nigeria’s first female cabinet Minister.
PLATFORM TIMES reports that Chief Oyagbola, a distinguished daughter of Igan-Alade in Yewa North Local Government of Ogun State, breathed her last on Friday, February 28, 2025, at the age of 94.
Amosun in a statement said Chief Mrs. Oyagbola’s life and legacy are celebrated not only in Ogun State but across the nation for her groundbreaking contributions to Nigeria’s socio-political landscape.
Amosun, while extending heartfelt condolences to the grieving Oyagbola family, highlighted her unparalleled dedication to public service, describing her as a paragon of selflessness, hard work, and unwavering determination.
He said during her tenure as Minister of National Planning from 1979 to 1983 under the administration of President Alhaji Shehu Shagari, Chief Oyagbola played a pivotal role in shaping Nigeria’s developmental agenda.
According to Amosun, her visionary leadership and strategic insights significantly influenced national policies that laid the groundwork for economic progress and social development.
He added that Chief Oyagbola’s diplomatic acumen was equally commendable, as evidenced by her tenure as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica, and Guatemala.
The former governor said her exemplary service in international relations underscored her expertise in fostering bilateral ties and promoting Nigeria’s interests on the global stage.
