In a heart-wrenching testament to the fragility of life, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, former Governor of Ogun State says the recent passing of Chief Executive Officer of Access Bank, Herbert Wigwe, and former Chairman of the Nigeria Exchange Group, Abimbola Ogunbanjo, has plunged the nation into mourning.
Amosun in two statements issued on Tuesday, expressed disbelief and sorrow over the sudden demise of Herbert Wigwe, his wife, and son, as well as Abimbola Ogunbanjo, whose deaths he said have reinforced the inevitability of life’s journey and its appointed end.
He added that for the past two days,he was grappled with a sense of denial, desperately hoping for a mix-up in the news emanating from the California-Nevada border, United States.
Accepting the harsh reality, he extended prayers for divine forgiveness and eternal rest for the departed.
Joining millions in mourning, Senator Amosun paid a tribute to Herbert Wigwe as a distinguished figure in Nigeria’s banking and financial sector, lauding his humanist qualities and well-rounded soul.
Reflecting on Wigwe’s life philosophy, Amosun acknowledged the courage, fruitfulness, and legacies that mattered most, expressing gratitude that Wigwe reached the zenith of his career and fulfilled many dreams.
Heartfelt condolences were extended to the aged parents, the Wigwe Clan, Access Bank family, business associates, and the entire corporate community.
Senator Amosun invoked the good Lord’s comfort during these challenging times, bidding Herbert Wigwe a poignant “Fare Thee Well.”
In a separate mourning for Abimbola Ogunbanjo, Senator Amosun lamented the extinguishing of a shining light.
Still in shock from the tragic news, he acknowledged the pain of losing Abimbola so soon after the burial of his esteemed father, Papa Chris Ogunbanjo.
Recognizing the transient nature of life, Senator Amosun paid tribute to Abimbola’s notable accomplishments and contributions to Nigeria’s capital markets.
Abimbola’s role as the Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group Plc during the post-COVID-19 era was highlighted, earning him the National Honour of Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR).
Senator Amosun’s thoughts and prayers were extended to Abimbola’s grieving family, urging fortitude in the face of this profound loss and bidding him a heartfelt “Fare Thee Well.”
