The Osun State Amotekun Corps, has arrested an ex-convict for allegedly trying to abduct 8 year old girl in the state.

The Amotekun commander in the state, Bashir Adewinmbi, a retired army brigadier-general, made this known in a statement on Monday.

Adewinmbi stated that, the suspect, a resident of Lawole Compound in Iresi town, was taken into custody on Saturday at approximately 2:30 p.m. after local residents caught him in the act of forcefully trying to take the 8 year old girl away.

“The suspect tried to lure the girl with N50 who was sent on an errand by her mother, but later forcefully grabbed her and tried to take her away when the girl refused to collect the money from him.

“It was at the point of trying to drag the girl away that the girl raised alarm, attracting residents to what he was doing. Residents later chased after him, arrested him and called in Amotekun officers from Olorunda Local Government to take him away.”

Upon being questioned, the suspect reportedly confessed to the crime and disclosed that his intention was to employ the girl in a money ritual if his plan had succeeded.

Adewinmbi noted that the suspect revealed he planned to make the girl vanish and reappear at a herbalist’s location in Ejigbo, where the ritual was intended to occur.

The commander also shared that the suspect admitted to having a previous conviction for robbery, although he currently works as a block molder. The individual has been handed over to the police for further investigation.

Adewinmbi however, advised parents to exercise caution regarding the whereabouts of their young children and to ensure they are always under supervision to prevent similar incidents from occurring.
