Tension flared in Kano State on Monday as enraged constituents chased a member of the House of Representatives, Tijjani Abdulkadir Jobe, from the venue of the All Progressives Congress local government congress in Tofa Local Government Area.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the incident occurred shortly after the federal lawmaker arrived at the congress venue, where party members had assembled for the exercise.
In a viral video seen by our correspondent, a large crowd was captured shouting and advancing toward the lawmaker and his entourage, forcing security operatives to hurriedly shield him from the surging mob.
“We are not doing this again,” some of the aggrieved constituents were heard chanting.
Others shouted, “You will not wait; take your chairman with you. Don’t leave him behind. Don’t leave alone,” as they moved menacingly toward the five-term legislator.
The visibly angry crowd accused the lawmaker, who represents Tofa, Dawakin-Tofa and Rimin Gado Federal Constituency, of abandoning his constituents and failing to maintain grassroots engagement.
“We are not interested again. The representative cannot relate with the people, and he is not tolerant,” some of the protesters yelled as security personnel struggled to contain the situation.
Sources within the party said Mr Jobe’s appearance at the congress was his first major outing in his constituency since his re-election to a fifth term in 2023.
The lawmaker has faced repeated public backlash in the past. In 2020, he was reportedly assaulted by aggrieved residents over alleged unfulfilled campaign promises.
Political observers in Kano note that Mr Jobe has contested elections on different platforms over the years, including the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party and the New Nigeria Peoples Party, before aligning with the APC.
He is said to have worked closely with former governors Ibrahim Shekarau, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and Abdullahi Ganduje, and is currently associated with the political structure of Governor Abba Yusuf.
Party insiders also linked his recent political realignments to speculations about securing an automatic ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections, though this could not be independently verified.
Efforts by PLATFORM TIMES to reach Mr Jobe for comment were unsuccessful as calls and text messages sent to his known telephone line were not responded to as of the time of filing this report.
The APC national leadership had yet to issue an official statement on the development as of press time.
The incident adds to growing concerns over internal party tensions and widening disconnect between elected representatives and their constituents in parts of the state.
