The All Progressives Congress has dismissed claims by opposition figures who predicted famine, anarchy and state collapse in 2025, insisting that none of the grim forecasts materialised despite economic and security pressures faced by the country.
The ruling party, in a Christmas message issued on Thursday by its Lagos State spokesman, Seye Oladejo, described Nigeria as “tested and pressured, yet unbroken,” saying the nation successfully navigated a year of difficult but necessary transitions.
According to the APC, 2025 was marked by economic recalibration, security challenges, global headwinds and long-standing structural distortions inherited from previous administrations, all of which demanded sacrifice, resilience and patience from both citizens and leaders.
“It was a year of difficult but necessary transitions; a year that demanded sacrifice, resilience and patience from citizens and leadership alike,” Oladejo said.
The party praised the administration of President Bola Tinubu for confronting the challenges head-on, arguing that gloomy predictions by opposition elements were politically motivated and ultimately unfounded.
Oladejo accused opposition groups of amplifying fear and pessimism by engaging what he described as “political prophets, professional alarmists and spiritual merchants of catastrophe,” who, he said, forecast famine, mass unrest, state collapse and foreign intervention.
“None of these came to pass,” he said.
“Unable to manufacture reality, they resorted to deliberate demarketing of Nigeria by peddling exaggerated narratives, distorting data, lobbying foreign audiences and undermining the image and sovereignty of their own country to score political points.”
Reeling out what the APC described as gains recorded during the year, the party said Nigeria’s democracy remained intact, security agencies made strategic advances despite misinformation and sabotage, while the economy began to show early signs of stabilisation and recovery.
“Our economy showed early signs of stabilisation and recovery. Security forces recorded strategic gains. Nigerians adapted, endured and moved forward with the quiet strength that has defined our history,” Oladejo said.
The party acknowledged that ongoing reforms have come with short-term pains but insisted they were necessary to secure long-term national prosperity.
As Nigerians celebrate Christmas, the APC urged citizens to put national interest above partisan politics, calling for unity and renewed commitment to nation-building.
“Politics must never override patriotism, and opposition must never mutate into sabotage,” Oladejo said, urging Nigerians to reject cynicism and despair and remain hopeful about the country’s future.
