The All Progressives Congress (APC) has ousted its Bauchi State chairman, Babayo Misau, over alleged shortcomings that contributed to the party’s losses in recent elections.

The announcement came from the party’s Legal Adviser, Rabi’u Garba, during a press briefing at the conclusion of an emergency executive meeting held at the “Next Level Secretariat” in Bauchi State.

Garba revealed that 27 out of the 37 executives of the party expressed a vote of no confidence in Misau during the meeting, citing his failure in fulfilling his responsibilities as the state chairman.

The legal adviser emphasized that Misau’s alleged leadership shortcomings played a significant role in the party’s setbacks, particularly in the governorship poll.

Addressing the media, Garba stated, “Following the executive committee meeting of the All Progressives Congress this morning, November 30, 2023, and having resolved and reflected on the issues and crisis bedeviling our party, particularly what we are facing immediately after the elections up to the general elections today, we have witnessed a lot of negativities happening within the party.”

In accordance with the party’s constitution, specifically Article 17 sub-article 5, the APC executives unanimously passed a vote of no confidence in Misau and appointed his deputy, Alhaji Mohammed Tilde, in an acting capacity. Tilde is now the acting state chairman of APC in Bauchi State.

Garba highlighted the necessity of reporting the decision to the national secretariat of the APC in Abuja, where a congress would be held for ratification.

He underscored that the move was crucial to saving the party from further challenges, stating, “This decision followed the apparent failure of the former chairman to lead the party effectively.

We have witnessed a lot of problems and issues bedeviling the party which we deemed fit to tackle by taking this decision; otherwise, the party will collapse in Bauchi State.”

Acknowledging the continued support for APC in Bauchi State, Garba explained that the lack of effective leadership had cost the party seats and victories, particularly in the gubernatorial election.

He asserted, “It is not as if people did not vote for APC; the majority of Bauchi State people voted for APC, but we couldn’t defend or secure our votes due to the apparent failure of leadership.”

Confirming the change in leadership, Garba concluded, “We make it public that Alhaji Babayo Misau is no longer the chairman of APC in Bauchi State, and we have immediately resolved and appointed his deputy, Alhaji Mohammed Tide, as the State Chairman in Bauchi State.”
