Former Minister of Interior and National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, has declared that the party will dismantle godfatherism, moneybags and political manipulation in Nigeria’s democratic system.
Aregbesola, a former ally of President Bola Tinubu, made the declaration on Sunday while addressing members of the Conscience Forum who recently defected to the ADC.
According to him, the ADC is “divinely ordained” to liberate the country from what he described as decades of political dominance by elites.
“ADC is not like any other party in Nigeria. Our ideology is simple: a people-friendly government. That is our distinct commitment to Nigerians,” Aregbesola said.
He argued that unlike other political parties, the ADC’s constitution prioritises the interests of workers, artisans and ordinary citizens over political wheeler-dealers.
“No party in Nigeria has this in its constitution. The ADC is God’s vehicle for the liberation of Nigeria. We are here to re-engineer the system and end the era of godfathers, money politics and elite domination,” the ex-Osun State governor added.
Quoting Article 7 of the party’s constitution, Aregbesola said the ADC stands to protect the masses from political manipulation. He ended his speech with a popular refrain: “Bye-bye to jaga jaga, bye-bye to all of them.”
The former governor stressed that the ADC is positioning itself as a viable alternative ahead of the 2027 elections, especially after some opposition figures recently adopted it as a coalition platform.
