The Nigerian Army has apprehended a notorious human trafficker, Mrs. Olushola Areke, in Lagos State, rescuing a 22-year-old victim from her clutches.

Mrs. Areke’s arrest was confirmed in a press statement issued by the army authorities via the office of the acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations on Monday.

According to the statement, troops of 65 Bn Nigerian Army (NA) operating under the 81 Division NA acted on actionable intelligence, leading to the successful apprehension of Mrs. Areke.

She stands accused of kidnapping Miss Fayoke Kunle, a 22-year-old daughter entrusted to her care by Mrs. Ainor Kunle.

Initially promised employment in Oshodi, Lagos, Miss Kunle found herself deceived as Mrs. Areke transported her to Kano, where plans were afoot to smuggle her into Libya.

However, displaying remarkable courage, Miss Kunle managed to escape and returned home on April 23, 2024.

Responding swiftly to the alarming report, troops confronted Mrs. Areke at the designated meeting point where she intended to pick up other supposed victims.

Both Mrs. Areke and Miss Kunle have been handed over to the Ajah Police Command in Lagos for further investigation.

The Division emphasized the importance of public cooperation in providing timely information to aid in maintaining law and order, reiterating the NA’s commitment to promoting peace and stability across the Division Area of Responsibility.
