In a decisive operation aimed at flushing out terrorist elements from the notorious Sambisa Forest in Borno State, Nigerian Army Troops of the 21 Armored Brigade, supported by the Joint Task Force (JTF) Operation Hadin Kai, have successfully uncovered a substantial cache of arms, ammunition, and equipment.
The operation, conducted in collaboration with the 199 Special Forces Battalion, Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), and Hybrid Forces, marks a significant advancement in the ongoing counter-insurgency efforts in the Lake Chad region.
Under the command of counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, the joint forces executed the mission in the Ukuba general area, targeting concealed weapon depots used by terrorist factions.
The operation commenced at 1210hrs on March 1, revealing that the terrorists had hastily deserted their enclave, leaving behind a plethora of sophisticated weaponry and military hardware.
Among the recovered items were one MOWAG engine, an unidentified heavy-duty block engine, various engine components crucial for military vehicles, one QJC W85 anti-aircraft gun, three PKT machine guns, two General-Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG), one M60 machine gun, two RPG tubes, one QJC gun cradle, and one unserviceable HK 21 rifle.
Additionally, military personnel retrieved one G3 rifle magazine, a fabricated 60mm mortar tube, and three cylinders used for Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
Military officials underscored the strategic importance of this operation, emphasizing its role in dismantling terrorist strongholds and recovering hidden arsenals crucial to their operations in the region.
This recovery represents a significant setback for insurgent activities, disrupting their capacity to mount attacks and endanger civilian lives.
“This successful operation underscores our unwavering commitment to rooting out terrorism from Sambisa Forest and beyond,” stated a senior military spokesperson.
“We remain resolute in our pursuit of lasting peace and security, ensuring that terrorist elements are rendered ineffective and incapable of threatening our national sovereignty.”
The operation aligns with broader military objectives aimed at securing the Lake Chad Basin and adjoining areas, preventing the resurgence of terrorist activities that have plagued the region for years.
