In a recent joint operation, the Nigerian Army, alongside the Navy, Air Force, police, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, has  uncovered horrifying details at camps allegedly linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its militant wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).

The operations spanned Umulolo-Umukele-Amousu and Agbobu in Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State.

Acting Deputy Director of 82 Division Army Public Relations, Lt.-Col. Jonah Unuakhalu, revealed that the clearance operations resulted in the discovery of burnt corpses of policemen, complete with their rank badges.

Despite facing challenges, including Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), the troops successfully stormed and destroyed the hideouts of the alleged terrorists.

The search of buildings used by these groups exposed evidence of terrorist activities, occult practices, and acts of cannibalism.

Additionally, an IED-making factory was dismantled, and a cache of items, including Biafran currencies, fake US Dollar bills, Biafran Liberation Army T-shirts, and other Biafran insignia, was recovered.

Military kit bags, cables used for IED detonation, and axes were also among the findings.

Two suspects were apprehended, and arrangements were made for the proper burial of the discovered burnt policemen corpses.

In a related incident within Owerri metropolis in Imo, troops on night patrol thwarted a kidnapping attempt by suspected IPOB/ESN terrorists.

The criminals abandoned their victim, and weapons, including an AK-47 rifle and magazine, a G-3 rifle with mounted magazines, and the vehicle used by the terrorists, were recovered.

Maj.-Gen. Hassan Dada, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, visited Eha-Amufu community in Isi-Uzo LGA of Enugu State on January 24, 2024.

During his address to the community, he urged cooperation with the military to address regional insecurity and assured them of his commitment to resolving herders and farmers clashes and youth restiveness.

Commending the cooperation of other security agencies, the GOC encouraged the public to provide information through the Emergency Line ‘193’ by pressing 2.

He reiterated the Nigerian Army’s dedication to protecting lives and property in the South-East as part of its constitutional roles.
