Elder statesman and philanthropist, Otunba Lana Akintan, on Monday commissioned the permanent office of the Otunba Lana Akintan Human Rights Foundation (OLAKHUF) as part of activities marking his 96th birthday.
The event, which took place in Oja-Odan, Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State, symbolised both a celebration of his longevity and a reaffirmation of his lifelong commitment to justice, equity and human dignity.
The Foundation, inaugurated in 2024 during his 95th birthday celebration, now has a permanent office to scale up its mission of protecting the oppressed and giving a voice to the voiceless.
Speaking at the commissioning, Akintan said the Foundation represented his legacy of service to humanity.
“I have spent my life defending human rights, and at 96, my desire is to see this work live on through the Foundation. I implore the Board of Trustees led by Mr. Abiodun Ogundipe to use every resource at their disposal to defend the oppressed and give voice to the voiceless. Our people can rest assured that this Foundation will stand as their defender,” he said.
Family members, friends, and associates described the initiative as a historic milestone that would remain a beacon of hope for generations to come.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Mr. Abiodun Ogundipe, assured the nonagenarian of the board’s readiness to deliver on its mandate.
“The people of Yewa North and its environs will certainly begin to feel the impact of OLAKHUF in no time,” Ogundipe pledged.
With the new office, OLAKHUF is expected to expand its reach across Ogun State, advocating for justice and providing support for victims of abuse, neglect, and oppression.
