Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have eliminated an unspecified number of Boko Haram insurgents and rescued seven abducted travelers after repelling an ambush along the Buni Gari-Buni Yadi road in Borno State.

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, the terrorists attempted to kidnap passengers from a Volkswagen vehicle before security forces engaged them in a fierce gun battle.

The attack targeted a convoy of top government officials and security personnel returning from Biu Local Government Area.

However, Governor Babagana Zulum was not present, as he had traveled separately by helicopter.

Sources said the troops, supported by a police crack team, overpowered the insurgents, killing several of them and recovering weapons and motorcycles.

The incident underscores the resilience of security forces in combating Boko Haram’s insurgency in Borno, even as the terrorists continue to target road travelers in the region.
