A 39-year-old man, Jegede Oluwasina, on Wednesday appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting two police officers on duty. The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a two-count charge of assault and breach of peace. The National Rescue Movement (NRM) has dragged the Ogun State Independent Election Commission (OGSIEC) to court over the required administrative charges imposed on all candidates in the November 16 local government election. DAILY POST reports that the Chairman of the Commission, Babatunde Osibodu had announced a N250,000 charge on each chairmanship candidate. Councillorship candidates were charged N150,000. Female councillorship candidates are to pay N100,000. The NRM has asked the court to declare the charges as illegal. A Makurdi Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday ordered that a 35-year-old man, Paul Gyenger, be remanded in a correctional facility for allegedly calling Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State “a chronic womaniser” on social media. Gyenger, who lives in Makurdi, was charged with cyberstalking and defamation of character.
