Striking university unions – the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, NASU – have asked the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, to pay their four months’ withheld salaries, following approval of the payment by President Bola Tinubu. Lebanon’s Hezbollah militant group has appointed Naim Kassem as its new leader following the death of Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed last month in an Israeli airstrike. More than 55 people were reportedly killed overnight in an Israeli air strike on a residential building in the northern Gaza district of Beit Lahia, according to Gaza’s civil defense agency.
