A Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Lagos, on Wednesday remanded a 44-year-old man, Sunday Lukas in custody, for allegedly defiling a nine-year-old girl. The Chief Magistrate, Mr Patrick Adekomaiya, ordered that Lukas be remanded at the Awarjigoh Correctional Centre, Baagry after he pleaded not guilty to a count charge of assault. The Court of Appeal in Abuja has dismissed a suit seeking to disqualify former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Olumide Anthony Akpata as the gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party in the September 21 election. The appellate Court held that the suit instituted by an aggrieved governorship aspirant, Kenneth Imasuangbon lacked cogent and verifiable evidence in the allegations against Akpata. The Lagos State Special Offence Court has sentenced an American businessman, Marco Ramirez to 74 years in prison over $1.6m fraud. Ramirez was sentenced on Tuesday following the charges preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. The EFCC had arraigned the convict on a 12-count charge but later re-arraigned him on a 16-count charge on June 24, 2022, before the presiding judge, Mojisola Dada.
