A former Chairman of the Textile Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, Senator Walid Jibrin, has said that only 20 out if 175 textile industries are currently in operation in the country. Jibrin lamented that a few years ago, not less than 175 textile industries were in operation in Nigeria . Speaking with newsmen in Kaduna, Jibrin recalled that the textiles industry used to be the second employer of labour after the government. Ogun State government has begun the moves to convert 2000 state-owned mass transit buses from use of petrol to use of Compressed Natural Gas. The Governor, Dapo Abiodun disclosed this on Thursday in an interview with newsmen after inspecting first successfully converted diesel and petrol bus at the state Secretariat Oke-mosan, Abeokuta, the state capital on Thursday. The Federal Government has raised the alarm that it had discovered that many medical doctors who have left the country in search of greener pastures, in other climes, are still on the pay rolls of public hospitals. The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has denied allegations that it was involved in unethical activities to collaborate with influential individuals in election cases in court. Following the rise in the pump price of petrol, the Federal Ministry of Transportation has advised Nigerians to begin considering the use of bicycles as an alternative means of commuting. The government said bicycle transportation promotes a cleaner environment and a healthy lifestyle. A man in Katsina State has reportedly divorced his 14-year-old housewife for allowing a male medical practitioner to attend to her while giving birth to his baby. The Executive Director, Nana Women and Girls Initiative, Dr Fatima Adamu, disclosed on Thursday. According to the activist, the teenage mother, who was divorced by her husband, was said to have had a complicated childbirth, resulting in being rushed to the hospital where there was no female medical practitioner on the ground to attend to her.
