The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has revealed that Dangote Refinery sold fuel to them at N898 per litre. NNPCL began loading on Sunday, after moving about 300 trucks to the 650,000 capacity refinery in Lagos. But their spokesman, Olufemi Soneye, has now clarified the price at which they bought it. “We successfully loaded PMS at the Dangote Refinery today,” Soneye told Daily Trust. “The claim that we purchased it at N760 per liter is incorrect. “For this initial loading, the price from the refinery was N898 per liter.” At least, over 70 trucks have been loaded so far.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, said its operatives in Uyo Zonal Command have arrested five Chinese for suspected illegal mining at Ndito-Eka-Iba village, in Ibeno Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale who disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, said the suspects were arrested by the Commission’s Special Task Force on August 29 and September 10. Seven out of 281 inmates who escaped from the correctional center in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, have been recaptured. DAILY POST reports that the development followed the severe flooding that damaged both public and private facilities in Maiduguri and some other parts of the state. The Nigerian Correctional Service, while confirming the number of escaped inmates on Sunday, revealed that about seven of them have so far been recaptured and returned to custody. Four persons have died from cholera in Adamawa State, while 36 others are currently in various hospitals receiving treatment. The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU has alleged victimisation of more than 200 of its members through unjust termination of appointments and the deliberate refusal to pay them owed salaries. No fewer than forty people were reported to have lost their lives in a boat mishap in Gummi town, Zamfara State. According to a local, Musa Ahmed, the deceased were going to their farms in the early hours of Saturday when the boat they were in capsized and sank into the river. The Edo State Government has announced that all the trapped students of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) in the collapsed three-storey building have been rescued. Nigerian commercial banks lost a total of N42.6 billion to fraud and forgeries over the three months from April to June 2024. The Financial Institutions Training Centre (FITC) disclosed this in its Q2 2024 Fraud and Forgeries report, released on Saturday. The report, based on returns on fraud and forgery cases from 28 deposit money institutions in the country, highlighted a worrisome surge in fraudulent activities. The figure surpassed the total amount lost to fraud in 2023, which stood at N9.4 billion.
