The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reported that 2,404 road traffic crashes led to the deaths of 1,305 Nigerians nationwide during the second quarter of 2024. The report detailed that the North-Central and South-West regions recorded the highest numbers of accidents and casualties. Nigeria spent a staggering N5 trillion on foreign debt servicing within the first nine months of 2024, reflecting the heavy burden of debt on the nation’s finances amid fluctuating exchange rates, data from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) shows. The CBN’s international payments system data revealed that debt servicing began the year with a cost of $560.5 million in January, amounting to N509.5 billion based on the exchange rate of N909 per dollar.
