 A medical doctor in Osun State, Olayode Akangbe Shakiru, has been apprehended by police for allegedly assaulting and raping an 18-year-old girl in Osogbo, the state capital.  The arrest was made by officers from the Oke-Baale Police Division following a report filed by the victim’s family. The United Nations (UN) Department of Safety and Security has issued a warning about the potential for violence in Nigeria as various groups prepare for a series of nationwide protests.  Scheduled to occur from August 1 to 10, these protests, known as the “10 Days of Rage,” aim to address the country’s severe economic hardship and soaring cost of living. The five corps members abducted on Ifon/Owo road in Ose Local Government area of Ondo State have explained how they were kidnapped and released after paying N5 million ransom. . The corps members identified as Oluwaseun Adewole, Feranmi Oluwadara, Patience Andrew, Taiwo Oribamise and Lekan Ajayi were returning to Akure after completing the mandatory orientation at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) permanent camp in Abia, when they were abducted. In a bid to avert potential unrest, President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians to reconsider the planned ‘EndBadGovernance’ protest scheduled for next month.  The President’s appeal was conveyed by Information Minister Mohammed Idris, following a meeting with selected State House correspondents on Tuesday. The Department of State Services (DSS) has dismantled a child trafficking syndicate in Kano State, arresting a 17-year-old girl and her sponsor.  This operation also led to the rescue of a 4-year-old girl, Aisha, who was abducted from Nguru in Yobe State. A  police inspector, Dasu Kassa, was found dead at his residence in Anguwan Yungur, Girei Local Government Area of Adamawa State.  Kassa’s lifeless body was discovered on Monday evening, and preliminary reports suggest he may have taken his own life due to financial difficulties. Kassa, who had returned from a hospital in Yola, the state capital, earlier that evening, was found hanged in his home.  The exact circumstances leading to his death remain unclear, prompting an investigation by the Adamawa State Police Command.  No suicide note was found at the scene, but family sources disclosed that he had been struggling…

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has  refuted the allegations made by Jamila Sidi Sirajo in a viral video, where she claimed the Agency failed to act on her domestic abuse complaint.  NAPTIP in a statement issued by Adekoye Vincent, NAPTIP’s Communication Officer, Adekoye Vincent,  described these claims as shocking and utterly unfounded.
