The police on Wednesday brought a 20-year-old man, Monday Ojo, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for alleged housebreaking and stealing of a pot of soup and other items. The defendant, who has no fixed address, is standing trial on a two-count charge of housebreaking and stealing. He, however, pleaded not guilty. The prosecutor, Insp Moyosola Adesola, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on March 14 at noon on Falegan, Ilawe Road, Ado-Ekiti. A man, Ojo Oladeji has been sentenced  to life imprisonment for defiling an 11-year-old minor three times. PLATFORM TIMES reports that the convict committed the offence in an uncompleted building. Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court delivered the judgement  on Wednesday . The judge held that the prosecution was able to prove the charge of defilement beyond reasonable doubt against Ojo. The tranquility of Oda, Akure was shattered as a 17-year-old girl, identified only as Wumi, stands accused of committing a heinous act.  The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the arrest of Wumi for allegedly stabbing her foster mother, Mrs. Funmilayo Adelayi, to death. Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have apprehended Kayode Cole for issuing a death threat against the Chairman of the Commission, Ola Olukoyede. The arrest took place in the Lugbe area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Cole allegedly made the threatening remarks through his Instagram handle, “1billionsecretss,” in response to a story posted by popular Instagram blogger, Instablog9ja, on February 1, 2024. The Senate on Wednesday at plenary resolved to name one of its committee rooms after the late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun. Oba Balogun died on March 15, at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, at the age of 81, after a brief illness two years after ascending the throne on March 11, 2022. The Nigeria Police Force says it is facing obstacles in accessing the troubled community of Okuoma in the Niger Delta region due to an ongoing military operation. The  Delta State Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda said this. The Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice James Kolawole Omotoso, has dismissed a suit brought forth by the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Nigeria.  The suit aimed to halt the conduct of elections and examinations on Saturdays throughout the country. The judge rendered the decision on Wednesday, deeming the suit frivolous and lacking merit. The Seventh Day Adventist Church of Nigeria argued that Saturday, being their Sabbath day of worship, should be respected, and conducting elections and examinations on that day infringes upon the fundamental rights of its members.
