Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have made significant progress in dismantling an organized criminal network responsible for the recent smuggling of two containers containing illicit drugs, arms, and ammunition from Durban, South Africa, to the Tincan seaport in Lagos State. Tragedy struck as an unidentified resident of Lagis state lost his life in a stampede while attempting to purchase rice at the Nigerian Customs office in Lagos.  The Court of Appeal, Gombe Division, has upheld the conviction and five-year jail term of Yobe State Local Government Auditor General, Alhaji Idris Yahaya.  Yahaya faced prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a one-count charge of criminal misappropriation involving N19.9 million.
