The Police in Imo State have arrested a secondary school teacher, Mrs Blessing Emmanuel, for allegedly dehumanizing a 12-year-old girl, Amarachi Emmanuel, who was said to be her stepdaughter. Mrs Emmanuel was arrested on Tuesday by the Owerri Police Area Command headquarters following a complaint made by an Owerri-based activist, Chidiebube Okeoma, who is also a journalist. The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, on Thursday, said that four corps members who absconded from their duty posts would repeat the service year. The Zamfara State government has announced the dismissal of 109 contracted teachers, citing their failure to abide by contract terms. Addressing newsmen at his office in Gusau, the State capital, the Executive Chairman of the Zamfara State Teachers Service Board, Muhammad Aliyu Anka, stated that some of the teachers had abandoned their contracts to teach in private schools while still collecting salaries from the government.
