Former Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has described the passing of the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Dr. Sikiru Kayode Adetona, CFR, Ogbagba II, as a monumental loss to Ogun State and Nigeria at large.
Amosun, in a condolence message issued on Sunday, said he received the news of the monarch’s death with profound shock and sadness.
Oba Adetona, fondly known as Orisa Ijebu, died at the age of 91 after a historic 65-year reign on the throne.
“Coming just hours after the nation was thrown into mourning over the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, Kabiyesi’s departure has deepened our collective grief,” Amosun stated.
He described the late monarch as a royal colossus whose reign was defined by service, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to the growth of Ijebuland and the strengthening of traditional institutions in Nigeria.
“Through his courage and leadership, Kabiyesi transformed the Awujale’s stool into one of the most respected royal institutions in the country,” Amosun noted.
He praised the monarch’s legacy as a rallying point for peace and unity across Yorubaland, adding that Oba Adetona’s patriotism, bold interventions on national issues, and commitment to truth earned him widespread respect.
The former governor extended his condolences to the Adetona Royal Family, the Ijebu Traditional Council, and the entire people of Ijebuland, praying that Almighty Allah grants the monarch Aljannah Firdaus and gives the community the strength to bear the loss.
“Adieu, Kabiyesi Orisa Ijebu,” Amosun concluded.
