Babcock University has intensified its collaboration with key professional and media institutions as part of efforts to enhance the employability and global competitiveness of its graduates.
The President/Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Afolarin Ojewole, disclosed this during courtesy visits to Lagos Television and the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, where he said the initiative was aimed at aligning academic training with evolving industry needs.
Ojewole said sustained partnership between universities and industry players remained critical to preparing students for real-world challenges, stressing that graduates must be equipped not only with academic knowledge but also with practical skills and professional exposure.
“We want our students to gain meaningful industry experience while still in school,” he said.
“This will help bridge the gap between theory and practice, promote innovation and entrepreneurship, and ensure our graduates are well prepared for life beyond the classroom.”
He added that the university’s vision was to produce research-driven, solution-oriented graduates who can compete favourably in both local and global labour markets.
During the visit to Lagos Television, Ojewole, accompanied by the Associate Vice President, Communication, Media and Branding, Dr Babafemi Akintayo, and other senior officials, held talks with the General Manager of the station, Mrs Adesola Kosoko, and her management team on opportunities for student training, internships and mentorship.
Kosoko welcomed the partnership and expressed LTV’s readiness to support the university through structured industry engagement programmes designed to groom future media professionals.
Similarly, discussions with the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria focused on integrating professional certifications and capacity-building programmes into Babcock’s academic framework, with a view to improving graduates’ relevance to the financial services sector.
The university said the initiative forms part of its broader strategy to strengthen town-and-gown relations, expand students’ career pathways and reposition its graduates for leadership, innovation and societal impact.
