Babcock University marked a significant milestone in the professional journeys of 55 medical laboratory scientists during its 12th induction and oath-taking ceremony held on July 22.
The grand event, hosted at the university’s 600-seater auditorium, celebrated the academic achievements and future potential of the new graduates, with Temitayo Ajayi emerging as the overall best graduate.
The keynote address, delivered by Prof. Festus Olajubu from the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo State, set the tone for the ceremony.
Speaking on the theme, “Empowering Personal, Public, and Global Health through Diagnostic Medicine,” Prof. Olajubu highlighted the pivotal role medical laboratory scientists play in the healthcare system.
He stressed the importance of diagnostic medicine in shaping public and global health outcomes, urging the new graduates to continuously seek professional development.
Ojunu said “get exposure through conference attendance and training workshops and set achievable goals for yourself.
“Be respectful and yet dignify your profession.”
Adding to the profound messages, Dr. Tosan Erhabor, Registrar/CEO of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria, addressed the inductees, emphasizing the critical ethic of patient confidentiality.
“Whatever you do, you must maintain and respect this ethic,” he urged.
The ceremony also featured an inspirational charge from Babcock University’s President/Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Tayo.
He reminded the graduates that their oath represented more than a promise to uphold professional standards; it was a commitment to excellence, integrity, and compassion.
“As you take your oath, remember that this is not just a promise to uphold the standards of your profession but also a commitment to continually strive for excellence, integrity, and compassion in all your actions,” he stated.
Supporting the sentiments of the day, the Dean of the School of Public and Allied Health, Prof. Dora Akinboye, and the Head of the Medical Laboratory Science Department, Dr. Esther Adejumo, extended their heartfelt congratulations and best wishes.
They encouraged the new graduates to excel in their forthcoming careers and make significant contributions to the field of medical laboratory science.
The ceremony drew a substantial attendance from parents, guardians, well-wishers, faculty members, and staff of the university.
