President/Vice Chancellor, University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, Prof. Ademola Tayo has challenged the new graduates to leverage their advanced knowledge to drive meaningful change in society.
The President/Vice Chancellor gave this advice at the 13th Doctoral Hooding Ceremony of 160 doctoral graduates.
In his address, Prof. Tayo extended his congratulations to the graduates and encouraged them to view their academic journey as a continual quest for knowledge.
He said “your certificate is valuable only to the extent that you apply your knowledge to bring about meaningful change.
“Earning a PhD is not the end of your academic journey; it’s the beginning of a lifelong pursuit of knowledge and discovery. You have the potential to be game-changers in your fields,” he said.
He emphasized the importance of teamwork in achieving lasting impact in their respective professions.
Also speaking,Senior Vice President Academics, Prof. Philemon Amanze, and Associate Vice President Prof. Constance C. Nwosu also addressed the graduates, emphasizing the significance of their academic robes as symbols of honour and responsibility.
They provided insight into the purpose and history of the hooding ceremony, reinforcing the ceremony’s significance.
Dr. Chidinnma Abaribe, the Vice President of the postgraduate Coral Graduating Class, reflected on the graduates’ challenging yet transformative academic journey.
“Our journey was marked by challenges, setbacks, and self-doubt, but also by growth, discovery, and triumphs. We’ve been transformed by our experiences, and we’re ready to make a positive impact,” Dr. Abaribe said.
The ceremony highlighted a notable focus on Information Resources Management, with the Department producing the largest cohort of doctoral graduates, numbering 23.
This was followed by the Accounting Department with 21 graduates, and the Business Administration and Economics departments with 18 and 15 graduates, respectively.
The event was attended by the University’s Pro-Chancellor, Pastor (Dr.) Istifanus Ishaya, along with other members of the Babcock community, relatives, and friends, marking a memorable occasion for the graduates and the university.
