The Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and elements within the Federal Government of orchestrating what he described as a coordinated campaign of political victimisation aimed at destabilising his administration and damaging his reputation.
Mohammed made the allegations on Thursday during an interview on Channels Television, where he claimed that security agencies and anti-graft institutions were being weaponised against him for political reasons.
According to the governor, Wike had openly threatened to “put fire” in Bauchi State, alleging that the minister was influencing petitions, bribing individuals and manipulating institutions to target him and officials of his government.
“To mention my name at all is something that bothers me, because I have never been accused of such things,” Mohammed said. “Look at my pedigree and my antecedents — a public servant, a senator, a minister. There are people behind this, and I know them.
“Somebody said he is going to ‘put fire’ in my state — the FCT Minister, Wike. I understand he is controlling all these institutions, bribing people and selling influence,” he added.
The governor further alleged that insiders within the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had informed him that petitions and documents influencing court processes were deliberately crafted to implicate him and key members of his administration, including his Commissioner for Finance, who is currently on bail.
While insisting that he was not opposed to due process, Mohammed said his constitutional immunity and rights were being disregarded in what he termed a smear campaign.
“I am not saying my name should never be mentioned if my commissioner is actually involved in terrorism,” he stated. “But for you to simply set aside my immunity — it is unfortunate. You give me a bad name.”
Mohammed claimed that the actions were part of a calculated move to force him into political alignment or neutralise him as a perceived threat.
He disclosed that he had written to the Attorney General of the Federation and other relevant agencies and warned that he would escalate the matter to the international community.
Asked what he was demanding, the governor said, “I am asking for protection — because this is victimisation. Protection of my human rights. I cannot be vilified. They are reckless.
“The President is surrounded by hooligans and charlatans who want to join the APC — not only that — who want to destroy me,” he alleged.
Mohammed also accused Wike of undermining the Peoples Democratic Party, describing the FCT minister as an “undertaker” with divided political loyalties.
“He is not a genuine member of the PDP, and I have watched him closely,” the governor said. “You cannot be in two places at the same time. It is against the laws of nature. You cannot be with them and with us at once.”
The Bauchi governor warned that the alleged abuse of power and unchecked impunity within the political system posed a serious threat to democracy, accountability and national stability.
