Ballon d’Or: He was far more pivotal – Shaka Hislop names player to win award

Former West Ham United goalkeeper, Shaka Hislop, has tipped Manchester City midfielder, Rodri to win the 2024 Ballon d’Or award.

Rodri would be doing so ahead of Real Madrid and Brazil’s Vinicius Jr, England and Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham and Spain and Real Madrid’s Dani Carvajal.

Rodri played a pivotal part in Manchester City’s winning of fourth straight Premier League titles last season, playing 50 times, scoring nine and assisting 14.

The midfielder then starred for Spain at Euro 2024, making seven appearances as they won a record fourth title.

He was also named the best player of the tournament.

Hislop said on the ESPN UK YouTube channel, “I am going for Rodri. For me, when we talk about Rodri and you talk about City successes, and albeit they got knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid on penalties, and Spain’s successes.

“I feel that Rodri was far more pivotal to those than Carvajal was for Real Madrid.”

Rodri, though, faces stiff competition from Vinicius Jr, Jude Bellingham and Dani Carvajal who all won the La Liga and UEFA Champions League double with Real Madrid.
