Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has disclosed that the Nigerian Army has concluded plans to establish an operational base in the Zuru Emokirate to tackle rising banditry in the area.
The governor made the announcement during a condolence visit to Tadurga village in Zuru and Kyebu in the Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area, following recent attacks on the communities by armed bandits.
He revealed that he has facilitated the immediate deployment of Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) and other military equipment from Abuja to support the planned base.

Governor Idris assured that the state government would provide swift support for the establishment of the base to ensure better protection of lives and property.
“No government will fold its arms and allow law-abiding citizens to suffer at the hands of bandits and other criminals,” he said.
He added that temporary accommodation would be provided for military personnel while a permanent structure is being planned. He also expressed deep concern over the tragic loss of lives in the recent attacks.
“We are unwaveringly committed to ensuring that every citizen of Kebbi State sleeps with both eyes closed. My administration will never treat security issues with levity,” he stated.
In separate remarks, the Emir of Zuru, retired Major General Sani Sami (Gomo II); the Chief of Danko, Alhaji Ibrahim Al’aji; and the Chief of Dabai, Alhaji Suleiman Sami, called for more robust measures, including increased security presence at border routes through which bandits infiltrate from neighbouring states to carry out attacks in Kebbi.
