Bandits Abduct Traditional Leader, Farmers In Kaduna

Bandits have reportedly abducted the village head of Tunburku in Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Malam Ashiru Sherehu.

PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the  incident occurred as Sherehu was returning from his farm on Saturday.

PLATFORM TIMES reports that bandits have been terrorising the area, leaving many residents in constant fear.

According to Ahmadu, a resident of the area, the situation has become so dire that farmers are now too afraid to access their farms, which are located just a few kilometres from the town.

The threat of being killed or abducted has created a climate of fear that is severely impacting daily life and the local economy.

Hussaini Umar, a traditional leader and Sarkin Fadan Galadimawa, confirmed the incident.

He detailed that the village head was abducted around 5:00 pm on Saturday while returning from his farm in the Tunburku area.

“He was returning from his farm around the Tunburku area when he was stopped by the bandits and they took him away.

“We are yet to hear from his abductors; they have not contacted us,” Umar stated.

In a separate incident, two other farmers were abducted in Sabon Layi under Kidandan Ward while working on their farms on Sunday afternoon.

Eyewitnesses reported that they were powerless to intervene as the bandits were heavily armed.

This pattern of attacks has left the farming community in disarray, unable to cultivate their lands and provide for their families.

Hussaini Umar expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the soldiers currently deployed but emphasised the need for more security personnel to be sent to the region.

“Farmers are being hunted by bandits,” he lamented, stressing the urgent need for government intervention to prevent further deterioration of the security situation.

As of now, the Kaduna State Police Command has not issued any statements regarding the abductions.

Efforts to reach the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, have been unsuccessful, as calls went unanswered.

The lack of official response has further fueled concerns among the local populace, who are desperate for assurance and immediate action from the authorities.
