In a distressing incident, bandits have seized control of seven residents from Kuduru, a nearby community of Bwari Area Council in Abuja, demanding a staggering N290 million in ransom for their release.
The victims, which include a pregnant woman, three children, and four adults, have endured captivity for one month and four days since their abduction on January 28 in the Kuduru extension.
A community leader, opting for anonymity, revealed that the bandits have issued a grave ultimatum, threatening to take the lives of two hostages if the N290 million is not promptly paid.
The abductors have extended their demands beyond mere monetary compensation, insisting on essential supplies.
“They have reached out to us, demanding N290 million for their release or they will kill two of them. We have a pregnant woman and three children among them,” the leader stated.
“They asked us to provide bags of rice, packs of Indomie, cough syrups, antibiotics, bedsheets, and cardigans for the bandits’ use. The N290 million ransom must be complete for them to let our people go.”
The community leader urgently pleaded with Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), and Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, to intervene swiftly in rescuing the hostages.
“We know that they are trying their best, but we plead with them to rescue our families, similar to what they did for the six sisters and the Ariyos,” he emphasized.
“We understand that these people are already falling sick in captivity due to the harsh weather and the treatment they endure.”
The community’s distress calls for immediate attention and action from law enforcement authorities to ensure the safe release of the abducted residents.
