…One guard shot multiple times during attack
Terror returned to Kaduna in the early hours of Tuesday as heavily armed bandits invaded a private hospital in Kujama, the headquarters of Chikun Local Government Area, abducting a medical doctor, five patients, and a security guard.
The incident, which occurred at Nasara Nursing and Maternity Home, threw the quiet town into confusion as residents scampered for safety while the assailants shot sporadically.
Eyewitnesses told that the gunmen, numbering over a dozen, stormed the facility around 1:00 a.m., ordering everyone to lie face down before whisking away their victims into the nearby forest.
“They came in large numbers, shouting and firing into the air,” a resident who pleaded anonymity said.
“They went straight to the hospital, took the doctor on duty, five patients, and a security guard. One of the guards tried to resist them, but he was shot several times. We rushed him to another hospital; his condition is very serious.”
Another resident described the attack as “one of the most daring” in recent times, lamenting that even hospitals — once considered safe spaces — are no longer spared.
“It’s frightening that bandits now storm hospitals without fear. The situation in Kaduna has become unbearable,” the resident added.
The Kaduna State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement as of the time of filing this report.
However, community members expressed frustration over what they described as the government’s “helplessness” in tackling persistent insecurity in the state.
The attack comes just days after bandits killed two police officers inside a Divisional Police Headquarters in Zonkwa, Zangon Kataf Local Government Area, and barely a week after nine people — including three minors — were murdered in Birnin Gwari Local Government.
A security analyst, Kabir Musa, said the growing frequency of such attacks underscores the need for coordinated community policing.
“Kaduna has become a testing ground for insecurity. Until the government strengthens intelligence sharing and provides better logistics for security operatives, these abductions will continue,” Musa said.
Residents of Kujama have since appealed to both the state and federal governments to deploy more security personnel to the area and intensify rescue efforts for the abducted victims.
