Suspected bandits have killed the Katsina State Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Alhaji Surajo Ahmed, during a deadly attack on his residence in Mai Rana community, Kusada Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The assailants, who stormed the community at about 10 pm on Sunday, also abducted Ahmed’s two wives and daughter, leaving the area in disarray.
Confirming the incident, MACBAN National President, Alhaji Baba Usman Ngelzarma, described the attack as a tragic loss for the association and the Fulani community.
He disclosed that the association has already contacted security agencies, urging them to act swiftly to rescue the victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“We have reached out to the police and other security agencies to investigate this matter thoroughly and ensure the safe release of the abducted family members,” Ngelzarma said.
Efforts to get a reaction from the Katsina State Police Command were unsuccessful as the Police Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, did not respond to calls or text messages.
The killing of the MACBAN chairman highlights the persistent security challenges in northern Nigeria, particularly in Katsina State, which has faced relentless attacks from bandits targeting rural communities.
This incident also adds to the mounting tensions surrounding the plight of Fulani communities across the country.
In Plateau State, for instance, a coalition of Fulani groups previously reported the loss of 350 members and 834 cattle between October 2023 and January 2024 due to violence in local government areas such as Barkin Ladi, Bokkos, and Mangu.
The group further revealed that more than 115 villages were razed during the carnage, with properties worth billions of naira destroyed, leaving several Fulani families displaced.
