Baptist union calls for value orientation change, morality among Nigerians

Nigerians have been reminded of the need for value orientation change and morality in their way of life.

Dr Soye Peniel Asawo, National President of the Men’s Missionary Union of the Nigerian Baptist Convention canvassed this view at the weekend after the close of the 44th annual congress of the Men Missionary of the Nigerian Baptist Convention.

He said Nigerians of all strata should stop compromising and frontally fight corruption, adding that not only the leadership of the country are responsible for the rot and decay in the country

He noted that civil servants and ordinary Nigerians were worse than the political officeholders, saying one kobo cannot be stolen from the government treasury without the collaboration of the civil servants.

“The naira was becoming valueless and the solution was not to increase wages but to put in place measures to pick up the value of the national currency. Many Nigerians go to bed hungry because of the badly managed economy.

“Leaders at all levels should make sacrifices. It is pointless to ask the masses to make sacrifices whereas the leaders are swimming in affluence. The level of waste in the country is the worst in the world” he said.

Asawo bemoaned the spate of insecurity in the country, calling on the president to give marching orders to the heads of various security agencies to restore peace, law and order.

In the 2027 general election, Asawo said it would be a futile exercise unless the leadership of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, is changed.

He said a true, transparent and fair election can only be conducted by men and women of integrity, maintaining that it was wrong to solely blame politicians for the decay in the country.
