Members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Ogun State Metro Command, have been urged to deepen their commitment to community service and security as part of efforts to sustain peace across the state.
The charge was given by a former Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Adewale John Abolurin, during an inspection visit by executives of the State Metro PCRC to the ongoing remodelling of the Ibara Government Reserved Area (GRA) Police Post in Abeokuta.
Abolurin said the transformation of the facility into a modern, state-of-the-art police post, with plans to upgrade it to a divisional command that will also house NSCDC formations, would significantly strengthen security in the GRA and its environs.
He explained that the project forms part of the urban regeneration initiative of the Ogun State Government under Governor Dapo Abiodun, aimed at improving infrastructure and enhancing public safety in residential areas.
The retired security chief stressed that effective security could only be achieved through active community participation, urging PCRC members and residents to see security as a collective responsibility.
“People must remain vigilant and committed to the safety of their communities. Security is not the duty of law enforcement agencies alone; it requires the cooperation and involvement of everyone,” Abolurin said.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the State Metro Command PCRC, Hon. Yomi White, commended Abolurin for personally supervising the project and mobilising support for the establishment of a stronger security architecture within the Ibara GRA.
White described the remodelling initiative as a critical intervention that would boost the morale of security personnel and enhance their operational efficiency.
Also speaking, the Ibara GRA PCRC Coordinator, Rev. Timothy Balogun, praised Abolurin’s leadership and dedication to the project, noting that his hands-on approach had helped to keep the construction on track.
Balogun assured residents that members of the PCRC would continue to work closely with security agencies to ensure the safety of lives and property, while also promoting the welfare of both residents and officers deployed to the area.
